In 2019 Joshua continued his professional training at Palucca University of Dance in Dresden\, Germany (Bachelor in Dance). At the beginning of 2022\, he participated in the Prix De Lausanne’s YCA (Young Creation Award) as a finalist. DESCRIPTION:A History of the Formation of the Cecchetti Society in Southern Africa \nYouTube Link – A History of the Formation of the Cecchetti Society in Southern Africa \nIntroduction: Anne Butler \nLecturer: Dr. Eduard Greyling \n \nEduard Greyling began ballet studies at the age of 12 with Jennifer Louw and later at the University of Cape Town Ballet School\, where he studied with Cecily Robinson\, Pamela Chrimes\, and David Poole. In 1966 he joined the Cape Performing Arts Board Ballet Company\, becoming the first danseur noble to emerge from the ranks of the company. During 1974/75 he was Soloist with the Dutch National Ballet and then returned to Cape Town\, resuming a successful partnership with Phyllis Spira. In 1988/89 Dr. Greyling trained as choreologist at the Benesh Institute under Linda Pilkington and Liz Cunliffe. After an apprenticeship at the Royal Ballet under Sir Kenneth MacMillan and Monica Mason\, he returned to Cape Town and rejoined the CAPAB Ballet Company as choreologist\, teacher\, and occasional guest artist in principal and character roles. Dr. Greyling became a lecturer in Benesh Notation at the University of Cape Town Ballet School\, earned a master of music degree in 2000\, and a doctorate in 2004\, exploring the notation of African dance. During these years\, he became a dance critic for Die Burger\, an Afrikaans newspaper published daily in Cape Town. At age 60 he retired from the stage in 2008\, and at 65 retired from the University. Through the Benesh Institute\, Dr. Greyling became a Fellow of the RAD and is a Patron of the Cecchetti Society of Southern Africa.

He was a faculty member of the ABT JKO School. Before \njoining ABT\, Mr. Lukens directed The Hamlyn School in Florence\, Italy\, was Ballet Master for Boston Ballet\, and Director of BB II. He has taught for ABT\, The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater\, The Juilliard School\, and Dance Theater of Harlem; he has judged for international dance competitions\, translated into Italian Joan Lawson’s book\, Ballet Class\, and has written several articles. Mr. Lukens has also choreographed in the U.S.A. and abroad\, including two televised UNICEF galas\, for The Intermezzo Ballet Company\, for BB II\, and for ABT’s Opening Night Galas at the Metropolitan Opera House seasons featuring the ABT Studio Company and ABT JKO School dancers. Mr. Lukens was named the 2015 Lucia Chase Fellow in the School of Dance at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and has received various awards\, including a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Italian Cecchetti Society in Florence\, Italy\, and in 2019 he received from Carla Fracci a Lifetime Achievement Award in Cesena\, Italy. DESCRIPTION:THE INFLUENCE OF ANNA PAVLOVA GLOBALLY \nYouTube Link ~ The Influence of Anna Pavlova Globally \nPRESENTERS: JANE PRITCHARD.M.B.E. & CAROLINE HAMILTON \nThe Birth of Anna Pavlova’s Company \n – Jane Pritchard M.B.E. \nThe presentation will look at how Anna Pavlova’s Company was established in the years 1910-1914 taking in its personnel and the development of its repertoire. It will reveal the shift from a Russian to a more international company and the building up of the repertory from programmes of divertissement to the inclusion of short ballets. Focus will be given to key ballet masters Alexander Shiryaev\, Enrico Cecchetti\, and Ivan Clustine and the crisis caused by Pavlova’s split with her stage partner Mikhail Mordkin in 1911. \nJane Pritchard is curator of dance for the Victoria and Albert Museum\, London (V&A). She curated Diaghilev and the Golden Age of the Ballets Russes\, 1909–1929 for the V&A which was adapted for Canada\, Spain\, and the USA and she edited the accompanying book. Her other exhibitions include Les Ballets 1933 (which toured Britain and the USA)\, Rambert Dance Company at 75; A Flash of Light: The Dance Photography of Chris Nash; Hand in Glove\, a performed exhibition; Anthony Crickmay: Photographing People and Performance and currently On Point. Royal Academy of Dance at 100. Previously she was archivist for Rambert Dance Company and English National.  She has made radio programmes\, curated seasons of dance films\, and contributed to numerous publications. She was a recipient of a Churchill Travel Fellowship and the Anthony Denning Research Award. She was awarded an MBE in the 2014 New Year Honours. \nBringing Ballet to the Antipodes – Anna Pavlova’s Australian tours\, 1926-1929 \n– Caroline Hamilton \nCaroline Hamilton is a dance and costume historian specialising in early twentieth-century ballet and the evolution of dance costume. Hamilton has written extensively on ballet and costume including as a contributing writer for Anna Pavlova: Twentieth Century Ballerina (2012)\, Ballet: The Definitive Illustrated Story (2018)\, and Dance We Must: The Art and Costumes of Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn\, 1906-1940\,  (forthcoming\, 2022). Hamilton has recently completed a PhD between the University of Brighton and the Royal Pavilion & Museums Trust. Her doctoral thesis examined the design and impact of Balanchine’s short-lived ballet company Les Ballets 1933 through the surviving costume and material culture. \n

He was a faculty member of the ABT JKO School. Before joining ABT\, Mr. Lukens directed The Hamlyn School in Florence\, Italy\, was Ballet Master for Boston Ballet and Director of BB II. He has taught for ABT\, The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater\, The Juilliard School\, and Dance Theater of Harlem; he has judged for international dance competitions\, translated into Italian Joan Lawson’s book\, Ballet Class\, and has written several articles. Mr. Lukens has also choreographed in the U.S.A. and abroad\, including two televised UNICEF galas\, for The Intermezzo Ballet Company\, for BB II\, and for ABT’s Opening Night Galas at the Metropolitan Opera House seasons featuring the ABT Studio Company and ABT JKO School dancers. Mr. Lukens was named the 2015 Lucia Chase Fellow in the School of Dance at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and has received various awards\, including a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Italian Cecchetti Society in Florence\, Italy\, and in 2019 he received from Carla Fracci a Lifetime Achievement Award in Cesena\, Italy. Mr. Lukens Vita travels worldwide teaching and examining the ABT National Training Curriculum. \n \nAlastair Macaulay \nAlastair Macaulay\, a British critic and historian of the performing arts\, is best known for having been chief dance critic of the “New York Times” (in New York) in 2007-2018 and chief theatre critic of the “Financial Times” (in London) in 1994-2007. Beginning as a critic in 1978\, he has reviewed for “The Guardian” (U.K.)\, “The New Yorker” (U.S.A.)\, and many other publications. From 1980 onward\, he taught dance history at B.A. and M.A. levels for many years in London (at the Laban Centre for Movement and Dance\, the Royal Academy of Dance\, and London Studio Centre\, among others)\, and from 1987-2002 was chief examiner in dance history to the Imperial Society of Teachers for Dancing. Since leaving the “New York Times”\, he has taught at Juilliard and has been a Director’s Fellow at NYU Center for Ballet and the Arts. In recent years\, he has written for the new American quarterly “Liberties”\, for his own website www.alastairmacaulay.com\, for the classical-music website “Slipped Disc”\, and many more.

DESCRIPTION:Brandon Lawrence\, Principal dancer of Birmingham Royal BalletPhoto: Paul McGrath\nDiane van Schoor    Photo: Johan Persson\nCecchetti Port de Bras ~ YouTube Link \nLecturer: Diane van Schoor\, South Africa\nIn celebration of the Cecchetti Centenary\, Diane van Schoor will present a lecture demonstration on Port de Bras with Brandon Lawrence\, Principal dancer of Birmingham Royal Ballet. \nDIANE VAN SCHOOR FISTD [CB] FRSA\, Enrico Cecchetti Diploma \nBorn in South Africa\, Diane van Schoor was trained by Jennifer Louw\, later the University of Cape Town Ballet School [Director Dulcie Howes]\, and danced professionally for CAPAB Ballet [Director David Poole].  She founded her School of Classical Ballet and held a lectureship in Movement Studies in the Dramatic Arts Faculty\, University of Stellenbosch.  Past Artistic Director of The Cecchetti Society of Southern Africa\, she holds The Enrico Cecchetti Mabel Ryan Medal\, Enrico Cecchetti Diploma\, and Fellowships of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing London [ISTD] and Royal Society for the Arts.  She is the recipient of the Cecchetti Dedication Award 2000\, for services to Ballet in South Africa\, and in 2011 was awarded The Enrico Cecchetti Gold Medal by the ISTD\, a lifetime achievement award in recognition of her promotion of classical ballet around the world. \nShe is a Trustee of the Cecchetti Society Trust in the UK\, a Trustee of the Ballet Benevolent Fund in Cape Town\, an ABT® Certified Teacher in Pre-Primary through Level 6\, 7\, and Partnering of the ABT® National Training Curriculum\, and she is currently serving as Artistic Advisor to Alberta Ballet School in Canada. \nDiane frequently presents papers at international conferences and has acted as subject consultant for various dance publications. She is an Honorary Committee Member of the Wayne State University for Fine and Performing Arts USA\, Honorary Member of The Cecchetti Council of America\, Founding Member of Cecchetti International\, and an Advisory Panel member for the Margaret Saul Scholarship in Canada.  She has taught at many of the world’s leading schools and companies including The Royal Ballet and both Upper and Lower Schools\, The Paris Opera Ballet School\, The Vaganova Academy\, The National Ballet School of Canada\, Royal Winnipeg and Alberta Ballet companies\, and their Schools in Canada\, Cleveland Ballet\, New English Ballet Theatre\, the Bartholin Seminars in Copenhagen\, The Banff Centre\, Cape Town City Ballet and in Sweden\, China\, and Japan. \nIn 1997 Diane was invited by Dennis Nahat\, Director of Cleveland Ballet to establish a co-venture school for the company in San Jose\, California. \nIn 2000 Diane joined the artistic staff of The Royal Ballet School [Director Gailene Stock CBE AM].  She taught Graduates at White Lodge\, 2nd Year Diploma at the Upper School\, choreographed for the Royal Opera House Main Stage for the Royal Ballet School’s annual performances and for the National Youth Ballet of Great Britain.  She is the former Ballet Principal of The Royal Ballet School\, White Lodge\, a post she held from 2004 to 2014. \nDiane taught the Enrico Cecchetti Diploma work to a selection of dancers from The Royal Ballet and Birmingham Royal Ballet and acted as Artistic Director of the heritage legacy film project for the Cecchetti Society Trust in the UK. Fellow\, Senior Examiner\, and Life Member of Cecchetti Ballet Australia\, Anne is a Victorian Representative on the National Council and an Australian Representative on the board of Cecchetti International Classical Ballet. \nAnne teaches Ballet\, History of Dance\, Theory and is coordinator of the Cecchetti program at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School. As an independent researcher\, she has presented for many organizations\, including the National Gallery of Victoria\, Johnstone Gallery\, and CORDS Conference\, New York.  Three of her papers appear in Cecchetti Pioneers published Canada\, 2014. \nPART II \nROBINA  BEARD  OAM\,  MCA\,  LCBA \n– Order of Australia Medal   \n– Master of Creative Arts – Theatre Strand    \n– Licentiate Cecchetti Ballet Australia \n Born in England\, and after having decided at the age of 7 to follow a career as a dancer\, Robina single-mindedly did EXACTLY this for the next five decades\, migrating to Australia as a child\, and moving through many different styles of dance including ballet and tap\, adding singing\, choreography and directing to her theatrical repertoire and in later years\, becoming a teacher\, an advocate for dance and dancers\, and an administrator of several dance organizations\, including CICB.   She attributes her successful dance career to her Cecchetti training. \nShe studied at Wollongong University in 1992\, achieving her Masters Degree in Creative Arts – Theatre Strand in 1993\, and teaching in the Music and Dance Faculty in 2004 and 2005. \nShe finally performed with the Australian Ballet\, at the age of 62\, in Graeme Murphy’s new version of The Nutcracker\, as one of the “older dancers” and knew then that wearing beautiful costumes and dancing to such beautiful music finally realized her childhood ambition. \nIn The Australia Day Honours\, on January 26th\, 2011\, she was awarded the OAM for “Services to the Arts particularly in Dance” and in the same year\, she received a ‘Lifetime Achievement”  at The Australian Dance Awards so the smile has not left her face since then. \nMore recently she has appeared in a solo acting performance  as Daisy Bates  entitled “Tales of Kabbarli”  also appearing in the awarded drama “Shoehorn Sonata” She has recently published her memoirs in a book entitled “My Life  You’re Soaking in it”

DESCRIPTION:La Sylphide \n\nLA SYLPHIDE   \nKS DANCE PRODUCTION \n\n\nI was fortunate to be one of the original cast of the Schaufuss version of La Sylphide created for London Festival Ballet /English National Ballet 1980….. \n\n\nThere has always been a connection between August Bournonville and Cecchetti – some say that the Maestro was greatly influenced by his work\, hence the simple arm lines and precise petit allegro and great strength in grand allegro. \n\n\nTo celebrate 100 years of Cecchetti opening his Centre de Danse in London\, please enjoy our college production of La Sylphide. The students are performing the original choreography in a slightly reduced version of the full ballet staged by myself. \n\n\nA huge thank you to Mr Simon Horrill for guesting with KS Dance in the role of Madge. \n\n\nKate Simmons \n\n\nDirector of KS Dance \n\n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Formation of the British Ballet Societies \n  \nPresenters: Dr. Kathrina Farrugia-Kriel & Julie Cronshaw  \n  \nOn the heritage of the “Grammar of dancing” \nTracing the legacy of the Italian School through the Royal Academy of Dance’s founder members Phyllis Bedells and Tamara Karsavina \nDr. Kathrina Farrugia-Kriel – LRAD\, BA (Hons)\, MA (Distinction)\, PhD \nDr. Kathrina Farrugia-Kriel is Head of Research in the Faculty of Education of the Royal Academy of Dancing. Her research interests are in 20th and 21st Century ballet (performance and pedagogical) histories. Her work is widely published\, and her books include Princess Poutiatine and the Art of Ballet in Malta (2020)\, and an extensive anthology The Oxford Handbook of Contemporary Ballet\, co-edited with Dr. Jill Nunes Jensen and recently published by Oxford University Press in 2021. She is editor of Focus on Education and also curates the Guest Lecture Series events. More recently Dr. Farrugia-Kriel has conceptualised\, researched\, and written the webinar series: Pioneers of the RAD (2020)\, and Ballet in the 20th Century (2021). \nSince joining the Faculty of Education in 2005\, Dr. Farrugia-Kriel has also guest lectured at universities in South Africa and Malta\, as well as taught at Kingston University and Rambert School. She is an experienced undergraduate and postgraduate External Examiner and has examined Ph.D. theses for the University of Melbourne and the University of Roehampton. She is a former member of the Board of Directors (2012-2018) of the Society of Dance History Scholars\, now the Dance Studies Association (USA). \n  \nThe Cecchetti Society in England \nJulie Anne Cronshaw – RBS Dip. TTC (FISTD) Enrico Cecchetti Diploma \nJulie Cronshaw is a Teacher of the Cecchetti Method\, a Fellow of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing\, and a Graduate of the Royal Ballet School’s Teacher’s Training Course. She is a current member of the UK Cecchetti Committee. \nMiss Cronshaw danced professionally in Germany\, the United States\, and Russia before returning to the UK to found Highgate Ballet School in 1995 where she continues to direct and teach. She has taught internationally in France\, Italy\, Poland\, and Japan.  She is also a registered Gyrokinesis teacher. \nIn 2007\, Miss Cronshaw became a founding member of the non-profit teaching society\, the Société Auguste Vestris Paris\, and in 2016\, for the Italian branch. In 2012\, Highgate Ballet School hosted the first-ever collaboration weekend of workshops with ‘Vestris’\, bringing together Bournonville\, Cecchetti\, and the Escuela Bolera. \nMs. Cronshaw’s work with master ballet teacher Roger Tully across two decades led to a new understanding of the Physical Principles behind the Cecchetti Method\, which now form the backbone of her own teaching methodology. In 2015 she created the website and blog\, The CecchettiConnection.com\, as a forum to present the Method. She has directed and produced a documentary released on YouTube in January 2021 called Ballet’s Secret Code\, with its accompanying website: www.balletsecretcode.com and a series of shorter videos called ‘Tips from a ballet teacher’.  \nMiss Cronshaw writes regularly and has published articles for Vestris\, International Cecchetti Societies\, and ISTD Dance magazine. \n
